Bhakti means devotion — a heartfelt surrender to the Divine. In a world often filled with ritualistic complexity and stress, bhakti offers simplicity and makes spirituality accessible to every common person. There is no intellectual debate, only love. And a reminder that true fulfillment does not come from possessions or power, but from surrender — letting go of the ego and opening the heart to the Divine.
From the 7th century onward, saints across India spearheaded the Bhakti movement. In the South, the Alwars and Nayanmars sang with longing; in Maharashtra and Gujarat, saints like Dnyaneshwar, Namdev, Tukaram, and Narsi Mehta brought devotion to the common people; in the North, Mirabai, Tulsidas, and Kabir spoke of love and surrender; and in Bengal, Chaitanya Mahaprabhu spread the joyous chanting of Krishna’s name, a tradition that continues in the Hare Krishna movement worldwide.
Music holds a special place here — it is one of the purest ways to awaken devotion and create the mood of bhakti. At Bhakti Nectar, we celebrate this living tradition through devotional songs to all deities, and through learning resources that nurture the spirit of surrender.
